Kia ora! I’m Sam. I have been practicing martial arts for nearly two decades, and I am dedicated to providing evidence-based self defence training for women. This training addresses the real life issues we face by using the attributes we naturally possess. Research shows that the challenges faced by women are specific. They range from micro-aggressions in the street to domestic violence, and fear that limits our enjoyment and freedom to do whatever we want. I’ve learned the principals of Empowerment Self Defence can make a difference, and now I’m excited to bring this difference to you.
When I’m not contemplating the facts and figures behind good self defence practices, or experimenting with how to preform more effective techniques in karate and jiu jitsu, you can find me slavishly throwing tennis balls for my spritely red-haired dachshund, Ashi. As a small single-minded female embodying love and audacity, she is a great inspiration to me!
